Unity in the Body of Christ

Erika Mellado, one of Parkhill’s Elders, teaches on 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, which discusses the meaning of living in unity amidst our differences. In the body of Christ, there is beauty in diversity, and the Holy Spirit uniquely gifts each member. The emphasis is on making ourselves available to serve and bless one another in love.

Guest Lecturer Chris Nye: Fools for Christ with the Mind of Christ: A Global + Historical Theology of Christian Political Life

Recorded live (with audience Q&R) on Sunday night, Jan 26, 2025. Author and pastor Chris Nye provides a solid vision of what it looks like for Christians to be a confounding presence. He paints the picture through an journey across time and space, bringing in examples from the global church and the historic church. In this lecture, Nye offers inspiration for the American church to live in a way that witnesses to the cross of Christ amidst political, cultural, and sociological challenges. Our current political moment may be new to the American church, but it’s a common experience for the people of God across time and space. Let's learn together towards this end. 
Chris Nye serves as Lead Pastor at Imago Dei Community, a local church in the heart of Portland, Oregon, where he lives with his wife and two kids. He is the author of a few books, including, A Captive Mind: Christianity, Ideologies, and Staying Sane in a World Gone Mad, and writes regularly on his Substack, “Cut for Time” - cnye.substack.com

Jesus Among the Ideologies

Chris Nye, pastor of Imago Dei Community in Portland, Oregon, visits Park Hill with a timely message. The cross of Christ will always be considered foolishness by societies. So rather than conspiring to ‘make Jesus relevant’ to culture, what if Christians passionately and unapologetically preached the confounding message of the cross with boldness?  If the cross is supposed to feel scandalous to our surrounding culture, there’s no making it relevant. There is only preaching Christ and him crucified, and this itself becomes the very power of God. 

Receive the Holy Spirit

In our moment of polarization and uncertainty, the world is longing for peace and belonging. We believe the Church exists to be the place on earth where heaven comes and fulfills these longings in every human heart. This dream becomes reality when God’s children open themselves to receive the Holy Spirit.
